“The Happy Birthday Händel Messiah World Tour”
Cape Town lures with a great charm. The beautiful coastal landscape around the Cape of Good Hope, the impressive Table Mountain, the multi-layered influences of the cultures of the African indigenous people, Boers and English are constantly blending in a fascinating way, making Cape Town one of the most diverse and impressive cities in the world.
Every year at Easter, the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town performs Handel’s Messiah with baroque orchestration, and we are invited to participate. In addition to the rehearsal and concert program, there is plenty of opportunity to explore this charming city and surrounding area.
2 April: On Good Friday we fly via Amsterdam with KLM to Cape Town early in the morning. We arrival in the evening and will check in around midnight at the 4* Hotel The Commodore.
3 April: After a restful sleep and a good breakfast, we will embark on a city tour and tour of Cape Town. In the afternoon there is to for relaxation is required and a Messiah rehearsal with the PCCT.
4 April: The famous Table Mountain is a MUST in Cape Town, but wind and clouds often restrict the visit. If this is not possible, the visit to Kirstenbosch Garden is another highlight in Cape Town. The afternoon is at leisure and can be used to explore the Waterfront, with the numerous shops, cafes and markets. In the evening we will enjoy the Messiah performance with the PCCT.
5 April: Depending on the programme of the previous day, we will visit either Table Mountain or Kirstenbosch Garden. In the afternoon, leisure time is planned in Cape Town’s historic City Center and a dinner at the Africa Café, which enchants us with singing and sound in addition to amazing African cuisine.
6 April: Today we are planning a day trip to the Cape of Good Hope. The beautiful Hout Bay and the stunning Chapman’s Drive are two highlights, as are the penguin colonies. But above all, we will experience a lot of impressive scenery. We end the day with the legendary Sun Downer on Signal Hill.
7 April: This last day is at leisure, or a last chance for Table Mountain, should wind and clouds prohibit the visit possible beforehand. You could visit Robben Island, for example, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, or take a wine tour or marvel at elephants and lions at the Aquila Private Game Reserve, or take a township tour. Cape Town has something for every taste. After dinner we head to the airport for the night flight back home.
